Aveley 3-2 Chelmsford City
From Mill Field
Essex Senior Cup Fourth Round
AVELEY produced a superb performance to knock heavy favourites Chelmsford City out of the Essex Senior Cup.
A late strike from Tyler Devlin ensured the Millers won 3-2 against the Conference South side, and they impressed throughout the contest.
Matty Bakare had opened the scoring for the hosts only for Michael Cheek to equalise a minute later.
Kyle Asante restored the lead before Cheek struck again to draw the match level.
Niklas Freund was in inspired form between the Aveley posts but he was unable to prevent Devlin scoring from close range after City failed to clear a corner.
Chelmsford’s Mark Hughes saw a header ruled out by the offside flag, before Bakare opened up his body to strike past Freund.
60 seconds later Cheek smashed home from close range but within three minutes Sammy Knott’s cross allowed Asante to restore the hosts lead.
The Clarets were in the ascendency after equalising but they failed to take advantage, with Cheek denied a hat-trick before Devlin’s winner.
