TILBURY were taught a lesson in finishing by their Conference opponents Braintree Town in the third round of the Essex Senior Cup on Tuesday night at Chadfields.
Both sides made changes for the game on a rain and wind-swept night in Tilbury.
Jordan Cox put the visitors, who are managed by West Ham legend Alan Devonshire, ahead in the 20th minute.
Steve Smith scored from 30 yards five minutes before the interval to double Braintree's lead and the game was all but over on the stroke of half time when Regan Pelling nodded home.
Mitch Brundle made it 4-0 11 minutes after the re-start.
The Dockers dug in and managed to stop Iron from extending their lead until injury time when Brundle netted again to give Braintree a 5-0 lead.
Grays Athletic's trip to Conference South rivals Concord Rangers in the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup was postponed on Tuesday night because of a water-logged pitch on Canvey.
