FA CUP: AVELEY are into the next round of the FA Cup after a battling display against Essex Senior League rivals Basildon United.
The Millers have enjoyed a prosperous start to the season and started this match well against their Essex Senior League opponents. Danny Francis hit the post with an audacious backheel and Marcus Elliott was denied by the terrific Harley Russell in goal for the visitors.
Russell was called into action again moments later, when he tipped a Spencer Harrison header onto the crossbar.
Colin Cook’s men had their first real chance right on half-time but Craig Gillam could only strike straight at James Marrable.
Aveley made the breakthrough ten minutes into the second half, Billy Coyne striking a fantastic free-kick into the top corner.
And debutant Theo Ola scored on his home debut after unselfish work from Lee Weemes.
Justin Gardner’s men will travel to either Codicote or Tilbury in the First Qualifying Round.
