MOTORSPORT: WEST Thurrock’s AmDTuning.com team will aim to build on the success it enjoyed at Knockhill when the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season continues at Rockingham this weekend.

The borough team secured a stunning first podium finish in the series during the Scottish event, with Inverness driver Dave Newsham producing his most impressive performance of the season to bring his Ford Focus home in second place in race three.

It capped an impressive weekend on track after two earlier top ten finishes, with Dave’s performance all the more remarkable given that it came just days after the death of his mother – to whom he dedicated his results.

Newsham will now seek to impress again when the championship heads for Rockingham and the first of back-to-back events in Northamptonshire.

Boosted by his first podium of the campaign, Newsham heads into the event in confident mood.

And he will hope to add to his impressive Knockhill points haul.

“The podium at Knockhill was a massive result for us,” he said.

“We showed the pace we have in the car, and to run at the front and keep (championship leader) Colin Turkington at bay was a huge boost.

“We’re heading for Rockingham in high spirits. It’s a circuit I enjoy and one that should suit the Focus.

“Knockhill showed how important it is to stay out of trouble and while I don’t think we’ll have the pace to qualify at the front, we’ll aim to chip away at it during the races and work our way forwards as we did in Scotland.

“My confidence is on a high and I can’t wait to get back in the car.”

Team boss Shaun Hollamby meanwhile said he was keen for the AmDTuning.com team to again show what it is capable of when it hits the track in Corby.

“Everything came together and we were able to benefit from it. Our first podium was a fantastic achievement and has given us a real boost,” he added.
