NON LEAGUE: TWO weeks ago, Thurrock coach Tony Gay tweeted to say that he was constantly being asked how Fleet will replace David Knight, last season’s goal scoring supremo.

Over the weekend, Ross Wall and Charlie Stimson provided an emphatic answer, scoring five goals between them as Mark Stimson’s side got their title charge back on track after two-game blip.

The week didn’t start all too well, as Fleet fell to a sorry 4-1 defeat against Wroxham – following a 120-mile mid-week journey to the Suffolk side.

But on Saturday, Charlie Stimson – returning to the side – scored twice, the first coming after eight minutes and the second just one minute later, as Thurrock beat Dereham Town 2-0 at Ship Lane.

Andy Walker – who has made an impressive start to the campaign – kept out a second half Ryan Hawkins penalty en route to the win.

Then on Monday, Stimson hit his third in two games to give Fleet an eighth minute lead against Chatham Town, before Wall doubled the advantage in the 40th minute. Two minutes later, Wall had notched his fourth of the season to make it 3-0.

Robert Clark made it four nine minutes into the second half, just before Ade Yussuf struck a consolation goal. Daniel Okah finished the scoring in the 78th minute, securing a resounding 5-1 win.

The win left Fleet on 12 points after six games, having won four and lost two.

Fleet travel to North London on Saturday for a preliminary round FA Cup clash against tough Cheshunt.
