GRAYS ATHLETIC 1

AFC HORNCHURCH 0

NON LEAGUE: GRAYS Athletic made it two wins in three days with a deserved victory against AFC Hornchurch on Bank Holiday Monday.

And it looks like Jody Brown has finally found the basis of a settled side.

One of the key figures is Jamie Guy who scored the winner for the Blues in the 70th minute.

Hornchurch’s were searching for a first win of the season and they did not get it here as they produced a sloppy performance.

However, so did Hampton on Saturday and so Grays cannot be blamed for the other teams faults.

Glenn Little came on after twenty minutes for the injured Joe Benjamin and showed the class that made a Premiership star.

The only goal came in the 70th minute when Jamie Guy showed his instinct for goal by backheeling the ball past Urchins keeper, Sam Mott.

Grays should have added a second when Little released sub Freddie Ladapo. But the keeper saved.

Two days earlier Grays produced a first Ryman Premier win of the season in emphatic style at hapless Hampton who sit bottom of the table and lacking a win in five matches.

But the hosts disappointing form shouldn’t take anything away from Grays, who produced an accomplished performance, taking the lead in the 23nd minute. Jay Siva sent across a free kick and then Jay Leader clipped the ball home from close range.

Grays continued to produce good link up play up front and in the 32nd minute, Jordan Wilson bustled into the area, passed to Joao Carlos, whose shot was well saved by Jack Norton, who was keeping Hampton in the game.

Grays looked sprightly as they started the second half and Jordan Wilson came close.

The second goal came in the 65th minute.Jamie Guy turned the ball in. And the third goal came in the 84th minute when Lloyd Harrington put the third goal in from close range.
