CRICKET: HORNDON CC made it five wins out of six at the weekend.

Horndon’s captain Jeff West Jnr celebrated his birthday with 25 huge points on Saturday.

Horndon travelled to Leigh on Sea seeking a fifth win out of six on Saturday.

Without Paceman Connor Price Horndon won the toss and elected to Bat to secure eight points in their relegating battle.

Horndon’s batting line up exceeded expectation smashing 305-5 against promotion chasing Leigh.

Connor Hamond (43) and Usman Jan (61) built the foundations and left Jeff West to do the damage at the end of the innings smashing 99 not out with help from Tom Stone who finished unbeaten on 42.

With points already in the bag Horndon took to the field full of confidence.

Leigh got off to a good start and were looking on for a good chase at 90-2, until their danger man Dean Waller was bowled by Jack Marson.

Leigh’s batting line up then crumbled, skipper Jeff West smashed through the middle order finishing with figures of 6-34 off eight overs.

The win takes Horndon out of the relegation zone and gives them breathing space from the bottom two.
