WOMENS RUGBY: THURROCK T-Bird Kay Wilson has been one of the heroes of England’s Womens Rugby World Cup campaign in France.
She came on as sub in the Red Roses’ match against Samoa and scored two excellent tries to contribute to the English team’s one-sided 65-3 win.
But new signing Wilson – who wore the number 14 shirt in England’s game against Spain in Marcoussis – is not the only Thurrock RFC Ladies player in the impressive England set up.
Rachel Burford is an Oakfield regular and was in England coach Gary Street’s national squad which confidently beat Spain 45-5 on Tuesday afternoon.
Tweeting after the Samoa game Wilson showed her happiness at getting her first points in national colours.
She said: “First ever World Cup game and couldn’t be happier with the result.
And Burford’s tweets after the first encounter revealed the toll the gruelling tournament is having on the players.
She said: “A very physical game v Samoa. Happy with the win, but lots to work on.”
Now England’s Thurrock contingent must steel themselves for their next international battle, against Canada which takes place on Saturday (2.45pm kick off).
