Orsett 249

West Essex 160

ORSETT scooped victory by 89 runs in their clash with West Essex at the weekend.

The School Lane encounter saw the home team win the toss and decide to bat.

There was a mixed bag of results from the Orsett top order as Ryan Plom was just getting into his stride when he was snagged lbw for just 14 off the tricky bowling of Arshad Mughal.

His opening partner Paul Bennett fared a lot better, striking 32 classy runs before he was caught by Mubashir Javed off another good ball by Mughal.

Next in was Mohammed Ahktar (20) but the Orsett batsman dug in and ground out the body of the runs with Lewis Lockyer (40) and Jason Plom’s top scoring with 66 to put Orsett back on track – and to give their bowlers something to defend.

A handy 22 from Kirk Laws and 29 late runs from the partnership of Mark Pavitt and Shahid Khan contributed to Orsett’s impressive 249 total.

In reply West Essex struggled from the off with Waleed Khan falling to a Kirk Laws catch off the bowling of George Pavitt for just two runs.

The rest of the top order went cheaply as Pavitt, Shahid Khan and Paul Bennett made hay aided by some impressive catching as the visitors struggled to get runs on the board and capitulated for 160.
