Stanford 338-5

Wood Green 127

STANFORD ensured they remain in the promotion mix with a crushing 211-run defeat of Woodford Green.

Ross Poulton had a day to remember for the hosts as he top-scored with a knock of 137, while Michael Gray hit 85 as Stanford posted 338-5 from their 50 overs.

Poulton then claimed 4-16 as Woodford Green were bowled out for 127 in 31.3 overs.

Basildon & Pitsea had hoped to end their three-match losing streak with a victory at home to bottom-of-the-table Epping. But the match at Mopsies Park was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch.

Stanford 2s

STANFORD’s second team secured their second victory in a week and their fourth of the season with a hard fought victory away to Leigh-on-Sea on Saturday.

After winning a crucial toss, skipper Drew Robinson invited Leigh to have a bat on a damp wicket after the recent heavy rains leading up to the game the previous week. The decision proved to be a good one as they reduced Leigh to 2 for 2 off the first five overs. Leigh eventually recovered to set a modest target of 162-8 thanks mainly to Al Lawrence (29) and Joshal Patel (37).

Stanford’s bowlers were able to keep things generally tight and wickets were shared around with Adam Knight (3-36) Jack Carter (2-36) and Greg Cohen (2-68) bowling well in a staggering 26 over spell.

Stanford’s reply could not have got off to a worse possible start with both openers back in the pavilion with only one on the scoreboard.

However, some good counter-attacking cricket from Robert Page (54) and skipper Drew Robinson (72no) who led from the front, accompanied by Adam Knight (34no) to win with two overs to spare.
