GOLF: MARDYKE Seniors, above, beat Belfairs 5½- 2½. Having suffered a 6½ – 1½ defeat at the hands of Belfairs in the spring, Mardyke Valley’s seniors’ were seeking revenge at home.
Mardyke’s opening duo of Captain Rod Hall and Cliff Edwards raced off to an early three hole lead, but their opponents battled hard. The Mardyke pair edged home 4 & 3.
Belfairs pairs Frank Howroyd and Harry Burke, Ron Murray and Stan Witton narrowed the gap with two solid wins only for John Bolden and Keith Webb to close out the last match 3 & 1 to give Mardyke a 5½ – 2½ victory. The nearest the pin prizes were won by Dai Evans and Mike Gunning for Mardyke and Mike Wellman and Stan Witton for Belfairs.
