ATHLETICS: EIGHT Thurrock Harriers were among the 350 finishers in the annual 10K road race held in conjuction with the Feast & Fayre.

It has proved difficult to get totally accurate results at the time of going to print and some of these performances will be adjusted when the final results are published, writes David Staines.

The times were slowed by the hilly nature of the course and the warm weather.

The Club’s runners were led home by Anthony Tobin, who was 13th with a time of 38m56s.

This was a strong, competitive run from the relative newcomer to the sport.

Having his first outing for months John Russell recorded 40m23s to finish 16th.

It was good to see John back to something like his old form.

Evergreen Mick Bumstead finished 18th in 40m26s.

This earned him the top prize in the V60 age group.

The team was followed in by Jason Syrett who finished 19th. His time of 40m31 was his best on this course, which he has run regularly.

Thurrock's other four runners all performed at their best: Nick Trencher was 23rd in 40m50, David Draper was 30th in 41m29s, Martin Mack 32nd in 41m36s and Bernie Johnson 55th in 44m43s.

Among the other finishers was Grays based Chris Wayman who was 3rd.

Former member and now resident in the North East David Johnson was 5th and Horndon resident boxer Wayne Hibbert finished 14th in 39m12s.

It would be an interesting clash to see Wayne up against Tei Lynn-Jones, another boxer, who has shown top class running ability.
