CRICKET: ORSETT posted a 133 run win over Fives & Heronians in their Shepherd Neame Division Two clash on Saturday at the Paddocks.

Fives & Heronians won the toss and elected to bowl, but heavy rain meant that the start was delayed until 12.50.

An additional rain break between 2.10 and 2.30 meant the second innings was reduced to 45 overs and meant that Fives had to chase a revised target of 322 off 45 overs.

The Orsett top order were on decent form with Ryan Plom bagging 55 before he was bowled by Jake Poulter.

But a masterful 142 from Paul Bennett set up Orsett brilliantly and when Mohammed Ahktar chipped in with a decent 52 the Orsett team knew that they were in the driving seat.

Kirk Laws (31 not out) and Mark Pavitt (18) took the Orsett side to 322 for 7 off 50 overs.

The only real threat from the Fives bowling attack came from Greg Summers who snagged three for 74 runs.

In reply Fives were buoyed by Gary Edwards 83, but apart from his innings and Mick Perry’s 45, the rest of the top and middle order failed to spark as Shahid Khan and Paul Bennett’s bowling won the match.

Both took four wickets (Bennett for 40 runs and Shan for just 17 runs) as the innings slipped away and Fives innings ended on 199 in their 39 overs – giving Orsett victory by 122 runs and putting Orsett third in the table, behind Hornchurch and Belhus.
