Orsett 250

Hornchurch 246-9

ORSETT bagged some much needed points on Saturday with a tight victory over Hornchurch.

The hero of the day for Orsett was Ryan Plom.

He battered the bowling attack and posted a majestic 96 before he fell to the bowling of Chris Sains, – caught by Myles Wells.

The rest of the Orsett top order failed to find their groove at the crease.

Paul Bennett’s wicket fell for eight runs and Mohammed Ahktar posted just eleven.

The middle order steadied the innings, thanks to Jason Plom (21), Alex Karkoski (25) and Kirk Laws (25). But the 250 in 49.5 overs was always a target that the opposition could get near to.

In reply the Hornchurch batting attack started strongly with Paul Murray junior hitting 40 before he was dismissed, caught by Ahktar off the bowling of Orsett stalwart Shahid Khan.

Orsett dismissed the next two wickets cheaply but Charlie Haylett, Roy Smith (53 not out) and Chris Sains (27) moved Hornchurch close to the total and it was only some excellent bowling from Khan 38-3 off 10 overs and Ahktar 20-3 off five who stopped them short of the desired tally. l Belhus seconds drew their encounter with Westcliff.

Batting first Westcliff chalked up 250 runs for the nine wickets.

Belhus’ Imran Mohammed was the most penetrative of their bowlers – taking three wickets. The Belhus reply of 210 was built around John Lewis Jn’s 80.
