AVELEY beat Waltham Abbey 4-2 at Mill Field to record a third straight victory and ensure they finished the season on a high.
Having started the first half slowly the Millers deservedly went behind when Darelle Russell chested the ball down before lashing a half volley over the stranded Russell Harley in goal.
“I hope that goal wakes you up” was the cry from Justin Gardner on the bench following the game’s opener and his side responded with two goals before the break.
The first came when the ball fell to Paul Burnett inside the area who struck on the turn and through a crowd to equalise.
And minutes later Lee Weemes continued his rich vein of scoring form as he polished off a well worked team goal to put the home side in front.
At 2-1 the Abbots were never out of the game and brought themselves level with an individual goal from Joe Pearman who cut back inside in the area before curling a delightful effort over the head of Harley.
But the Millers weren’t to be denied their victory as Burnett won and converted a penalty and minutes later Weemes wrapped up the points, getting on the end of a cut back from Kyle Asante to score into an empty net.
