Burnham Ramblers 1

Aveley 4

AVELEY look to be ending the season strongly after recording back to back victories with a convincing 4-1 win over Burnham Ramblers at Leslie Field.

The performance from his side had boss, Justin Gardner purring at full time having played the entire match with centre back Glen Golby in goal with all three of Aveley’s ‘keepers out injured.

Golby notoriously saved a penalty in the final game of the 2008/09 season which sent Aveley up to the Ryman Premier League as champions.

The stakes weren’t anywhere near as high this Easter Monday, but the Millers ‘goalkeeper’ was forced into making two decent saves in the opening 45 minutes, from Billy Hunt and Dan Williams.

Before the match Gardner said if his side managed to get anything out of the game it would be the best result of his career, and his side took one step towards securing that after Jay Kynaston put into his own net early in the second half.

The lead though only lasted four minutes when Burnham were awarded a penalty which was dispatched by Bradley Nobbs. But the Millers weren’t to be denied as Kyle Asante put Aveley back in front by sliding the ball past Louis Godwin-Green, before Lee Weemes’ flicked effort and Oyetunji Oyewale’s tap in in injury time secured the Millers their second win in three days.
