Grays 1

Hampton & Richmond 3

RYMAN PREMIER: GRAYS were comfortably beaten by Hampton & Richmond Borough in a below par performance at Mill Field.

Blues came into the match on a good run of form, picking up eight wins from 11 games, but found themselves two goals behind after half an hour. Despite pulling a goal back, they conceded again with ten minutes remaining to rule out any chance of a comeback.

The visitors went ahead after eight minutes when Charlie Moone’s cross was met by Dave Tarpey, whose shot flew past George Kamurasi in the home goal.

Grays had two chances to equalise through the pacy Joao Carlos but he off target on both occasions. He was made to rue those two chances when Moone doubled Hampton’s advantage, clipping a shot past Kamurasi for his first goal since February.

The goal sparked Blues into action and pulled a goal back when Helge Orome capitalised on an error by Stuart Lake to roll home past the onrushing Rodney Chiweshe.

Into the second half, Grays felt they should have been level when the ball hit the back of the net but the referee blew for a foul on the keeper. The game was made safe 12 minutes from time after Kamurasi failed to claim a through ball, leaving Tarpey the simple task of tapping into an unguarded net.

Grays had a late chance to cut the lead but Luke Wanadio failed to hit the target.
