BOXING: MIDDLEWEIGHT Tey Lynn Jones won his final for the Essex Senior Elite championships at Harlow Stadium.
The referee ended the contest after his opponent, seasoned campaigner Tommy Walsh, from Southend ABC, received three standing counts in the second round. The Tilbury fighter’s strength was key from the from the early stages.
And although Walsh remained on his feet, he had taken a lot of power shots to head and body and his corner were looking to retire him – if the referee had allowed him to continue.
Lynn-Jones will now represent Essex in the Eastern Counties stage of the national Elite champs on April 11.
And he will be will be looking to add this title to the Eastern counties novice title he won last year.
Also representing Tilbury Dockers in the light heavyweight final was Nathan Yerlett who was narrowly outpointed by Dan Azeez from Essex University despite forcing the action throughout.
