Witham 3, Tilbury 0

PAUL King scored two against his old club as Tilbury's poor run continued.

The centre half headed home twice - getting his first goals of the season - as Witham ploughed on towards the Ryman Division One North title.

King, who left Tilbury in January 2013, has played a big part in Witham's terrific season.

Gary Kimble's side now have nine games to win the division. They have three games in hand over and are just two points behind VCD Athletic, who currently hold top spot.

The two sides meet on Saturday.

But Tilbury were Witham's latest victims. And it was King who put Paul Vaughan's side to the sword.

"It was nice to score against my old side," King said afterwards. "It's a shame on Tilbury but things are going well for us. It was good to get a double, I haven't scored all season, and to keep a clean sheet, too.

"We now have nine 'cup finals' to win the league starting with two tough games against Needham Market on Thursday and VCD on Saturday."

It was a former Grays Athletic man, Joe Sweeney, who opened the scoring for Witham at Spa Road last night.

His 29th minute opener was added to six minutes later by King.

And King scored again in the 53rd minute to make it 3-0.

The defeat means Tilbury have failed to win in their last seven games.

Before Tuesday night's clash, a number of squad changes were announced, with striker Harry Cook returning to the team.

Former Arsenal trainee, Ben Glasgow, 20, has also joined the club along with 19-year-old Tom Wood from Leiston, Luke Milbourne from Bishops Stortford - both made their debuts at Witham.

Cordi Niles, 22, from Dagenham and Redbridge and Emmanuel Follarin, also 22, from Homesdale FC.

Dockers currently occupy 18th in the Ryman Division One North.
