BOXING: Chadwell ABC have a team of seven lads who will contest the National Schoolboy’s championship.

For a small club this is a massive achievement according to club stalwart Sindy Overy.

She said: “It proves just what dedicated, disciplined and talented youngsters we have in the borough.

“They’ll all be boxing in the sport’s most prestigious championships and fighting for national titles.” The seven fighters are: Last year’s semi-finalists twin 14-year-olds Jake (48kg) and Jay Healy (46kg) from Hathaway Academy, and 13 year old Klayden Russell-Meade (38.5kg) from Orminston Academy. Also boxing will be Larry Hanrahan, 13, (54kg) from the Culver Centre. Also battling will be talented 12-year-old Sam Lee (50kg) who is at the Gateway Academy. Two others in the ring will be the undefeated 12-year-old 29.5kg fighter James Josling from William Edwards School and Quey Moloney, also 12, (37kg).

Jay, Jake and Klayden are all to box off in the Essex rounds of the championships to be held over the weekend at The Arena in Colchester.

The other four boxers all received a walkover into the next round having nobody to box in Essex. Jay Healy will box an Essex semi-final against Albie Scopes of Southend ABC Jake Healy will box a straight final against Brandon Catton of Billericay ABC and Klayden Russell-Meade will fight against Jay Frazer of Centurions ABC also in a straight Essex final.

Also boxing at the same venue is Chadwell St Mary’s Open Class senior Elite boxer Kieran Redding 60kg. Redding is matched against the very strong Brentwood boxer Inout Dutca for a warm up bout to the Senior Elite Championships to be started in March.
