Chatham Town 1, Aveley 2

By Scott Hatley

Two goals from Kyle Asante secured Aveley their first back to back wins since August with a gutsy 2-1 win away at Chatham Town.

Asante’s winner six minutes from time was just rewards for the Millers who should have been out of sight before half time.

It took just 10 minutes for Aveley to open the scoring when Nathan Koranteng forced goalkeeper Lee Kidman into a smart save only for Asante to react quickest to tap home the rebound.

And after Aveley missed a hatful of opportunities Asante was given the chance to score from the penalty spot when Ade Osifuwa was brought down in the area, but Kidman saved brilliantly to ensure the scores stayed at one.

After failing to capitalise on their first half dominance it was no surprise when 10 minutes after the restart the Chats were level when Ade Yusuff beat the offside trap before rounding Jack Giddens to equalise.

The hosts continued to pile on the pressure but as the match approached its conclusion Osifuwa kept a cool head to lay off Asante with Kidman off his line. The striker made no mistake this time, stroking home the winner – his fifth goal in his last three matches.
