Aveley 1

Ware 1

AVELEY’S inconsistency came back to haunt them once more as they laboured to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to strugglers Ware.

After Aaron Gayle scored his first league goal for the club after just six minutes, it was all set up for a routine home win for the Millers. But after failing to get a potentially decisive second, Ware punished the home side. And they were given a helping hand by goalkeeper Jack Giddens. A free kick was struck towards goal by Ware’s Tony Martin and was on target, but Giddens got his angles completely wrong.

He expected the ball to go wide, only for it to nestle in the net just after the hour mark. After that point Aveley struggled to break down a dogged away team in a game that was never given a chance to flow with so many fouls and offsides. Although Ware didn’t really look like causing a shock and grabbing a winner just like Waltham Forest did earlier in the season they were more than deserving of their point. Aveley’s best chance to snatch a victory came into stoppage time when Jason Twum dragged his effort harmlessly into the hands of Kwame Fordah.
