FA Trophy date for Rocks
6:00pm Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
FA TROPHY: EAST Thurrock smashed six past Eastbourne Town to set up a derby date at Canvey in the FA Trophy on Saturday, writes James Colasanti.
Rocks had battled in a goalless draw at Eastbourne in the first game of this tie 11 days earlier.
But there was no danger of a stalemate on Tuesday as a brace from Leon McKenzie, one from David Bryant, Jason Hallett’s first goal for the club, a strike from defender Steve Sheehan, and a penalty from Tom Stephen put them in cruise control with 15 minutes to go.
Two goals in the last 10 minutes for the visitors at Rookery Hill did little to ruin a good night’s work for the Rocks and they will be in confident mood ahead of their trip to the Prospects Stadium to face Danny Heale’s Gulls in a second round qualifying tie at the weekend.
But Canvey will be in good spirits too after they beat Grays 3-0 to progress into the fourth round of the county cup.
Goals from Simon Thomas, Mike Jones and Warren McBean sealed a good win for Canvey, but they were unable to give a debut to their new striker John Sands because of a registration hold up.
