Mill Field clash
9:53am Wednesday 30th October 2013 in Sport
NON LEAGUE: AVELEY secured a vital three points with a 2-1 win against AFC Sudbury at Mill Field.
Ross Wall’s winner nine minutes from time was the difference as the Millers recorded just their third win in their last 11 games.
The visitors were up against it as early as the 26th minute when Greg Crane was sent off. The centre half caught Petrit Elbi in the penalty area and as the last man he walked, leaving Elbi to convert the penalty.
Elbi rattled the face of the bar as Aveley tried to put the game to bed early, but they were unable to finish Sudbury off.
Despite the man disadvantage the Suffolk side continued to threaten, most notably from Jack Cawley’s long throws.
Elbi, Brian Okwera and Ryan O’Rawe all had opportunities in the second period to kill off their spirited opponents. But Ryan Henshaw equalised just before the hour mark, latching onto a dropped catch from Jack Giddens which looked to be sending Justin Gardner’s side home frustrated.
But then Wall who got on the end of an Aryan Tajbakhsh near-post corner to volley inside Alex Archer’s near post.
