Kickboxing belt goes to Essex Kickboxing fighter

KICKBOXING: ESSEX Kickboxing Academy’s Reece Rowell took a world kickboxing belt under controversial circumstances on Saturday.
The well-known borough fighter’s ISKA world middleweight title bout with David Pineda lasted under three rounds before Rowell won by technical knock out after Pineda left the ring.
Rowell’s trainer Steve Kerridge, who owns the Academy fight school, said he was amazed at the way the fight had ended.
He said: “Pineda had been knocked down in the third round. He had been hit with a copuple of really good punches and went down. “He got up quickly but when the ref started to give him a standing count he started jumping around and waving his arms and was obvioulsy very annoyed by this decision.
“I think he objected to the standing count decision – but in the end he ended up leaving the ring and then coming back. “But under the ISKA rules if you do that you’ve lost on TKO. It was not an ideal way to end the bout or win a title, but those are the rules and I cannot see what he was annoyed about.” Kerridge said Reece training extremely hard for the battle and felt frustrated that his rival’s actions had cut the fight short.
