CYCLING: THURROCK-based Gateway Cycling club members enjoyed their recent ride from Leigh-on-Sea to Shoebury and back. Stalwart Jon Lane said: “We met at Leigh station in the morning, first having tea, bacon sandwiches and a comfort break. Fourteen of us started set out at a steady pace, taking in the estuary sea views. “Using the cycle paths here, and enjoying the holiday atmosphere, we made for Uncle Toms Cabin cafe at Thorpe Bay for a short stop and to make sure that we were all together.
“From here we set off through the Shoebury Garrison estate out into the countryside and the pretty villages of Great Wakering and Barling. “Its quite flat here, the traffic is cycle friendly and the fields were freshly harvested. The weather was kind to us with a warm breeze and plenty of chat and good humour.”
The day also incolved as stop at Rossi’s for an ice cream, then back to Leigh and then home to Thurrock.
Gateway Cycling club is about inclusiveness, and it caters for all levels from novices to very experienced riders.
