Sport funding - applications sought

SPORT FUNDING: Applications are still being invited for the next round of Sport England’s ‘Sportivate’ funding, a £32 million National Lottery-funded programme which will support projects running between September 2013 and March 2014.
Sportivate is a key component in Sport England’s ‘Places People Play’ 2012 legacy programme to enhance mass participation, and the overall aim is for 300,000 participants aged 14-25 years to complete a short introductory course of activity, with at least two in every five choosing to continue afterwards.
The programme will attempt to change habits and get more young people doing regular sporting activity. Sportivate is a national project delivered on a local level with administration in Essex, Southend and Thurrock carried out by the County Sports Partnership, Active Essex.
National governing bodies of sport, local authorities, sports clubs, youth clubs, leisure trusts, secondary schools/colleges/universities and not-for-profit organisations, groups and workplaces representing 14-25 year olds are all eligible to make a submission.
Clubs who cater for people within this age range and are targeting ‘semi-sporty’ youngsters not currently regularly active can put forward an application for their project, providing it will take place over at least six sessions. Existing projects will not be considered, but funding can be issued to help meet staffing, facility hire, marketing or transportation costs in new ventures. The deadline for final submissions in this round of funding, which should not be reliant upon coordination with schools, is 31st August and Sportivate have earmarked a number of high-quality aspects as being desirable during the upcoming period.
They are particularly seeking applications which demonstrate very strong links to community-based exit routes, provide evidence of a successful transition of recruited participants into continued activity, generate publicity for the activity and the Sportivate programme and engage more participants in the 17-25 age range.
