Tomlin: there's still a chance

LEAGUE TWO: GAVIN Tomlin wants Southend United to continue their fine away form when they head to Rochdale tomorrow.

Blues have been beaten just once in their last six games on the road, wtrites Chris Phillips.

And the fit again Tomlin wants to play a part in extending that good run, following three disappointing results at Roots Hall.

“We’ve picked up some fantastic results away from home against some of the best teams in the division already this season and now we want to go and get another win away from home,” said Tomlin, who has come off the bench in the Shrimpers’ last two games.

“We won 1-0 at Chesterfield, the lads got a great result at Port Vale before these three home games, so there’s nothing stopping us winning both of these away games against Rochdale and Bradford we have coming up.

“They’ll be tough, there’s no doubt about that, but if we can pick up six points from the two games then you can never say never in terms of the play-offs.

“It’s going to be extremely difficult, there’s no doubt about that.

“But we went on a good run earlier in the season and if we can do that again from now until the end of the season then it’s a case of seeing where we end up.”

Tomlin also wants to play a part in that happening having now recovered from the thigh injury which kept him sidelined for six weeks.

Blues’ top scorer was forced to miss 11 matches after picking up the problem in training.

But he is now delighted to be back in action and wants to help Paul Sturrock’s side rediscover their best form.

“Hopefully my return can help give the lads a little bit of a boost on the pitch because confidence might be a little bit low at the moment. “I’ve got a hunger in me because I want to be back playing regularly and playing well.

“The main thing though, and the thing the team and I want most, is to get back to winning football matches after a difficult and disappointing three games at Roots Hall.”

Southend go in to Saturday’s game sitting eighth in the League Two table, six points below the play-offs with seven games still to go.
