Competition goes down to the wire

BADMINTON: DIVISION One of the Basildon and Thurrock Badminton League was decided on Saturday with the finish going down to the last group of matches at the Springhouse club in Stanford.

The Bulphan pairing of Paul Hyde and Zac Paller, pictured, just beat the home team 31/26 and then went on to beat all the other teams on the same day.

The other battle was for survival in Division 1 and this was between Eversley, Bannatyne and East Thurrock.

The loser would be relegated and it was the youngsters from East Thurrock who could not hold on to their Division 1 status.

They narrow lost to an experienced Bannatyne team 31/27.

And in their last match Bannatyne threw caution to the wind and then went on to beat the home team 31/30.
