Basildon swimmers show skills

SWIMMING: THREE young swimmers have achieved fantastic swimming results in the DSE Junior and Youth National Championships.

The Basildon & Phoenix Swimming Club members are Ciara Tappenden, 11, William Jones, 15, and Charlotte Hartin, 17. The trio managed to record many personal best times during the course of the championships.

Tappenden, who competes in the S15 Category for deaf swimmers took part in seven individual races (50m and 100m breast stroke, 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle) and a relay race (400m freestyle). She won four gold medals and four silvers and also managed to break the S15 category records in the 50m and 100m backstroke and the 400m freestyle. Jones, who competes in the S14 category for swimmers with learning disabilities also performed superbly in his five individual races (50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m breast stroke, and 100m backstroke) and a relay (400m medley). He also had a terrific medal haul with three golds and three silvers. Hartin is also in the S14 category. She went in for three individual races (100m and 200m freestyle, and 100 breast stroke) and a relay (400m medley), bagging two silvers medals and one bronze.
