BOXING: SIX fighters represented the Team Chadwell St Mary over the weekend. And all six of the boxers from Chadwell ABC won their bouts. On Friday February 8 the action took place at East Ham Working Men’s Club.
Nineteen year-old-Ben Davey (54kg) took on Charlie Keating from Five Star ABC on the Newham Boxing Club Open Show bill. And Davey won his bout by a unanamous decision.
Davey is a very fit boxer and has learnt to come forward enabaling him to mix it up in bouts by sitting on his back foot and using his strength against his opponents when needed.
Next up on the same London Show was 12-year-old Klayden Russell-Meade.
This 34kg fighter boxed against A Ishfaq from Southend ABC. Russell-Meade won his bout by a majority decision.
A well known fighter at Chadwell, 14-year-old Levi Lee (57kg), Jay Healy, 13, (42kg) and Jake Healy, 13, (40kg) all attended the quarter finals of the National Schoolboy Championships held at Harlow Dog Track on Sunday February 10. Lee and Jake Healy both received walkovers on the day.
And Jay Healy boxed against Hemel Hempstead’s C Mansell, winning his bout by a unanimous decision – seeing all three boxers through to the National semi finals which are due to be held in Portsmouth on February 17.
Chadwell chairperson Sindy Overy said: “To have three local boys in this stage of such a prestigious competition is such a massive achievement for a small unfunded club and would like to personally thank the coaching team for their commitment which enables the youngsters to reach such potential.”
Twenty-year-old Kieran Redding (60kg) is through to the Eastern Counties round of the Senior ABA Championships making him The Elite Essex Champion for 2013.
Redding will be boxing next in The Eastern Counties round of the championships to be held at New Astley in Suffolk on March 1.
Redding is a very experienced boxer who has had nearly 60 bouts since joining the gym at the age of 11.
He is a great aspiration to the younger boys in the gym and helps out whenever possible.
Team Captain Redding has a very good chance of winning the Elite Senior ABA’s this year.
