ATHLETICS: BASILDON AC’s Jack Fitsall was the first south Essex athlete home at the British Universities Cross-Country Championships in Leeds.
Fitsall, representing Exeter University, was 58th ahead of fellow Basildon athletes Stephen Strange (125th) and Billy Parker-Brown (185th) who were both representing Writtle College.
Southend AC’s Howard Clarke (Coventry University) was 187th and Thurrock Harriers’ Dennis Cross 214th.
In the shorter 7.5km B race, Basildon AC’s Dale Clutterbuck (St Mary’s) was 21st, while Amy Webb finished 114th in the women’s race, ahead of Basildon team-mate Anna Whitfield (137th). Southend AC’s Holly Gillard was 206th.
