Assombalonga fitness query

FOOTBALL: THE SHRIMPERS are waiting to find out if striker Britt Assombalonga will be fit for Saturday’s clash at Chesterfield.

The forward, who has played just once since Boxing Day, has returned to his parent club, Watford, for treatment on an ankle injury.

And Southend United boss Paul Sturrock has yet to hear from the Hornets about his progress.

“Britt had a reaction to the injury when he trained last week and we’re waiting to hear from Watford,” confirmed Sturrock.

“If he’s not fit, he won’t be risked, but we’d like to get him back playing as soon as we can.”
