Essex FA stalwart dies

FOOTBALL: Tributes are being paid to former Essex County FA Council Member and schools representative, George Cash DFC, who passed away recently at the age of 91 having enjoyed a long and distinguished life which included military honours.

George served as the Essex County Schools FA’s representative on Council from 1982 to 1998, receiving a ten-year Long Service Award in 1992, and he currently has a cup competition named after him in the Under 14s Girls age group. Prior to this he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) following his heroism during World War II.

During his time as a Head in Barking, George was Treasurer of the Barking Schools Football Association when Barking won the English Schools FA Under 15s Trophy final in 1975. He later became Treasurer of the Essex County Schools FA and was made a Life Member of the Association on relinquishing this post.
