UK Sport decision angers diver

DIVING: Peter Waterfield has reacted angrily after learning he is losing his UK Sport funding.

The 31-year-old, who has trained at Southend’s Garon Park in recent years, has been told British Swimming will no longer financially support him from April. Waterfield tweeted: “Well just found out my funding will be cut in April so I won’t be able to compete in commonwealths or Rio even if I wanted to.”

He was Tom Daley’s 10m platform synchronised partner at London 2012, and they finished fourth.

A statement from British Diving said the funding’s been cut because it’s not thought Waterfield has podium potential for Rio 2016.

Waterfield is now looking for sponsorship and can be contacted at peterw1@me.com
