NON-LEAGUE: STEVE Tilson says he will not be ringing the changes in his Canvey side for their match with East Thurrock today, despite the disappointing derby defeat to Concord.

The Canvey manager said: “We had won our last three before that match, so there will be no panic.

“It is these players who helped us go on that little run, so I will not be making changes.

“And I could not make many changes if I wanted to, because we have a small squad.

“So it will be the same team for East Thurrock, but I will expect a lot more effort from them, because that was lacking against Concord.”

Reflecting on the 3-0 loss to the Beachboys, Tilson said: “I thought for the first 20 minutes we did well and then they got a lucky break with the deflection for their first goal.

“And I said to the players at half time that I still thought we could win the game. But we did not do ourselves justice in the second half, and we let the game pass us by.

“So it was not a fantastic game for us, but now it is about how we bounce back.

“I’m expecting a similar sort of game against East Thurrock and we will have to work hard to match them and then hopefully show that little bit more quality.”

Tilson says he is still looking to bring another forward to the club, but added he did not expect to have completed any deal before today’s game.

With a pitch which drains well at the Prospects Stadium, there was quiet optimism as the Echo went to press last night that today’s match will not be called off because of the wet weather.

Kick-off is at 3pm.
