KICKBOXING: BOROUGH kickboxer Reece Rowell used his brutal kick again at the weekend and bagged a K1 title.

His weapons proved as dangerous as ever – leading to the KO of an opponent in Colchester. Rowell, who is an instructor at Steve Kerridge’s Essex Kickboxing Academy gym at Purfleet, took on and beat Mike Freeman in the cage at Colchester’s Charter Hall.

And in doing so the talented fighter bagged the K1 middleweight 75kg title. The bout was supposed to be over five three minute rounds. But it didn’t last that long as Rowell delivered his KO blow in the last few seconds of the first round.

Steve Kerridge said: “Reece has always had good legs, and we’ve been working on getting them even stronger.”

On the same bill, Aveley’s Koen Li lost a tough Thai Boxing match.

Now the fighters are all looking forward to the borough’s Fightmax 7 event due to be held at Purfleet’s Circus Tavern on March 16.
