Wapping 5ths 7

Thurrock 2nds 2

HOCKEY: THURROCK stormed out of the blocks against pre-match favourites Wapping on Saturday afternoon, restricting their hosts to a handful of half chances during the first period, and went into the break 1-0 up thanks to a Mike Hewing penalty corner.

The second half was a very different story though.

A freak deflected shot which looped up over Keith Mager in goal opened the floodgates, and ten minutes later the scoreline was 4-1 to the east London side.

With their heads down, Thurrock were a different team, and although Hewing scored a second, Wapping were rampant, adding three more before the final whistle.

Credit should go to Tom Archer and Josh Bridges-Poley, stepping up from the third string and into a match against some very experienced players.
