Shrimpers face tough test

SOUTHEND UNITED: SOUTHEND United’s Tamika Mkandawire knows only too well what to expect from Martin Ling’s Torquay United team at the Plainmoor Stadium tomorrow.

Ling signed the 29-year-old midfielder during his time in charge of Leyton Orient.

And Mkandawire therefore feels the Gulls will be tough opposition this weekend.

“I know their manager well and he’s very good at organising teams,” said Mkandawire.

“He signed me for Leyton Orient and was keen for us to play good football so I’m expecting the same from Torquay.

“They’re having another good season and they’re just outside the play-offs at the moment.

“They have a good record at home as well, so we’re in for a difficult game. But we’ve done well recently too and want to try to keep that going.”

The Shrimpers have not been beaten in their last four games and are up to 11th in the League Two table.

They now sit just three points below the play-off places but Mkandawire was keen to play down his part in the recent turn around in form.
