South Essex darts ace in action

DARTS: SOUTH Essex professional Steve Maish is convinced he will compete at the PDC World Championships next month — despite being dogged with bad luck this season.
Maish suffered two 6-5 defeats in the latest rounds of the Players Championship.
But he is confident he will get to the Professional Darts Corporation’s blue riband event at the Alexandra Palace in December.
“I’m playing well but have not been getting a lot of luck this season,” said Maish.
“I was 5-2 up against Kim Huybrechts at the weekend, looked across at the board and checked out and then realised the chalker had put the numbers in reverse order and ended up losing 6-5 — that’s typical of how it’s gone for me.
“I just need to get a bit of luck and I’ll be rocking and rolling, but I’m still on course for the World Championships.”
Maish lost 6-5 to number 19 ranked Steve Beaton in the first round of Players Championship 15 in Killarney, before winning his PC16 first round tie against Kevin Dowling 6-3. He then lost 6-5 to number eight ranked Huybrechts. Maish is currently 66th in the PDC order of merit.
BASILDON’S Paul Barham is 172nd in the PDC standings. He lost 6-1 to Andrew Gilding at PC15 and and 6-1 to Scott Rand in PC16.
