9:42am Monday 14th July 2008

TWO Thurrock students have been selected from hundreds of hopefuls across the UK to be part of Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Fellowship Programme and they will be flying out of the UK on a mission this week.

Abid Siddiqui, 18, from Grays and Lisa Morgans, 18, from Stanford-le-Hope were chosen as two of 100 young people to join the programme, which was launched this year.

Abid will be spending his time in Shanghai, China and Lisa will be visiting Mumbai, New Delhi and Calcutta in India.

Both students will get the opportunity to explore new cultures and societies and will also spend two weeks working in a school where they get the chance to help children with their English.

In the final two weeks, they will be a guest of a global company, where they will get an understanding of how international business works.

Palmer's principal Mark Vinall said: "Lisa and Abid represent everything that is good about young people and I am delighted with their selection for inclusion in the Prime Minister's Global Fellowship Scheme.

"They are an enormous credit to themselves, the College, Thurrock and the UK."

Abid and Lisa will be completing a project whilst they are on their trip to present to the Prime Minister in November 2008.

Lisa hopes to study veterinary science at the University of Bristol and Abid hopes to study medicine at Kings College London.

They will both receive their results from family while they are away.
