FORMER staff at 10 care homes across Essex have been given a £1 million payout.
Unions GMB and Unison won the payout from Excelcare following a tribunal.
The dispute arose after ten elderly people's homes were transferred from the county council to Excelcare in 2005.
The following year, the firm claimed the homes were in financial difficulties and that staff had to take pay cuts of up to 40 per cent or they would close.
