The new government's opposition to a second runway at Stansted is an "absolute blow" for businesses in the region, it has been claimed.
David Cameron and Nick Clegg's Conservative-Liberal Democrat government firmly opposed to extra runways at the Essex terminal, Heathrow and Gatwick.
But while that has been welcomed by environmental campaigners and residents, it is a major blow to business, according to Denise Rossiter, managing director of Essex Chambers of Commerce.
"I think it's an absolute blow for business," she said.
"I am speaking on behalf of probably three quarters of our members that want Stansted.
"And naturally the business community is not in favour [of scrapping the runway proposals].
"Over 200 businesses are on the airport site. It is the biggest employer for the local community."
