Sutton's more senior residents were offered a helping hand last week with a tennis-themed event in Sutton town centre.

Age UK Sutton organised the publicity drive, which saw passers-by treated to scones and lemonade and invited to play games of street tennis.

The event was to raise awareness of the help and services that Age UK can offer.

Coun Simon Wales, executive member for communities, transport and voluntary sector on Sutton Council, said: "What an inventive way of raising awareness.

“It can sometimes be difficult to reach more vulnerable members of the older community, and this is a great way of catching the attention of friends, relatives and neighbours who can pass information on."

The tennis event follows on from last year's publicity drive of an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party.

This year's event was run as part of Sutton Council's Take Part Take Pride festival.
