This is the man police want to trace in relation to a number of robberies on the railways.

British Transport Police (BTP) have released this CCTV image following a robbery and several attempted robberies in a two-day period.

Police said the first robbery occurred on Sunday, August 28 at Denmark Hill when a woman walking through the booking hall at 7.30am was grabbed from behind. The male demanded her handbag. However she screamed and the offender ran off empty handed.

The following day at about 11.30am, the man attempted to steal a mobile phone from a male at Streatham railway station. The victim struggled with the male and managed to keep hold of his phone.

Police said the suspect then boarded a train towards Tulse Hill before re-boarding a train heading back towards Streatham. During that journey the man robbed a woman of her mobile phone and struck her to the face.

Detective Constable Tony Burman, from the BTP Robbery Squad, added: “Police have seized CCTV from the incidents and believe the same man is responsible for all three crimes. We are hoping that members of the public may be able to help in identifying the violent man captured on CCTV.

"He is described as black, with a shaved head. He’s aged 20-25 years and about 183cm tall."

If you know the man, call the BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or the witness appeal line on 020 7391 5275 quoting background log B6 of 10/10/2008.
