Coach park market plan recommended for refusal by Thurrock councillors
THURROCK Council have recommended a refusal to allow a coach park in North Stifford to be used as a market on Sundays mornings.
The application was made by Capital Shopping Centres, who own Lakeside Shopping Centre, to allow the site to be used as a market on Sundays between 9am and 1pm for three years.
The site is in the metropolitan Green Belt but is used infrequently at peak shopping times as an overspill parking area for Lakeside Shopping Centre.
Little Thurrock and Blackshots Councillor Joy Redsell said she was worried about what kind of market it would be.
She said: "I'm not against markets but I'm worried this would be in the bootsale vain."
Councillors also expressed concern about traffic problems with Ockendon Councillor Barrie Lawrence saying: "Imagine if this market was a success, just think of the Sunday morning traffic, this is probably a wonderful idea but not in this area."
With the committee following the officer's recommendation of refusal, the final decision will be left to the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation.
