Foreign aid priority is all wrong
11:13am Thursday 6th October 2011 in Letters to the Editor
I AM responding to the article in last week’s Thurrock Gazette written by the MP for Thurrock, Jackie Doyle-Price.
Ms Doyle-Price stated that ‘only’ 0.7 per cent of the UK’s GDP is spent on foreign aid.
In plain English, that’s £23million a day.
She may be proud that the Conservatives have hugely increased Britain’s foreign aid, but where is all this money coming from? This £23million a day doesn’t grow on trees. In reality, Britain is borrowing the money to give away.
China and India is awarded foreign aid. Both these countries have nuclear weapons, growing economies and unchecked corruption.
Why are British taxpayers being made to pay for foreign aid? If anything there should be greater help for pensioners.
Instead of worrying about the world and his dog Ms Doyle-Price, you should be taking action to help the needy of Thurrock before others. – CLIVE BROAD, chairman, Thurrock UKIP.

The trouble is-no-one wants to say anything for fear of being branded a racist.
We are all suffering in this country to keep our heads above water and are asked by Cameron to stick with his measures - and then the government are giving money away we havn't got. From what I have read even the US gave less than half we did- with the size of their country!
Democracy? the people should have a say on how much we give away.
