AFTER complaints by the campaigners regarding the comments mentioned in last week’s Gazette and the uproar outside the State Cinema last Saturday morning, Councillor Barry Palmer has apologised to “Save the State” campaigners.
In a letter councillor Palmer has said he sincerely apologises and is extremely sorry for any offence or distress that his aside remark regarding the State Cinema may have caused “Save the State” organisers, fellow campaigners and anyone else.
He states that his remark has been taken out of context and was part of a wider discussion which related to the external bland unattractive building without giving thought or consideration to the interior contents.
Councillor Palmer continues by saying he can assure the campaigners that the State building or the site was never considered by the planning committee for development at that meeting and furthermore he will support any campaign to renovate and restore the State Cinema to bring it back into public use.
I would like to thank councillor Barry Palmer for his apology and prompt response regarding the situation.
Pete Valentine,
State Cinema Campaign.
