Come up with facts councillor!

WHEN councillor Garry Hague made bogus claims about the crime survey conducted by the Liberal Democrats without seeing the evidence, he put his reputation on the line.

His integrity was called into question by a requirement to produce hard facts to substantiate his claims which he is duty bound to respond with dignity.

However, he has woefully failed to produce any shred of irrefutable or incontrovertible evidence in this regard.

Unfortunately, he has instead responded with a tirade of personal insults which does not augur well with his standing as a public figure.

As I stated earlier, councillor Hague should be in possession of the crime figures. He must now publish them and stop deflecting attention from the real issue. Residents who have been victims of crime want something done about it.

Councillor Hague, if crime is not an issue on Chafford and North Stifford what is preventing you from disclosing the figures to support your claims?

What are the weekly crime figures in the area? Are they going up or down? By suppressing material information of public interest you are doing our community a great disservice.

Further delay in publishing the crime figures will confirm an abdication of your responsibility in acknowledging fellow residents' concerns and the incidence of crime in the area.

It could also be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to ignore the plight of residents who have been victims of crime.

Residents want reassurance, give them proof. Unless you can provide evidence people are more likely to believe that either you are not telling the truth or have something to hide.

If you cannot provide the figures don't bother to reply.

Earnshaw Palmer,

Chafford Hundred.

Said in a David Attenborough voice " And there, we hear, the final call of the Earnshaw Palmer. After ruffling feathers for the past three months shouting for all its might for just a few hundred votes it goes into its final swan song. Most in the Thurrock area are impervious to its loud, but pointless cry, having grown accustom to this brief and shallow display, knowing full well that this bizarre creature will go into hibernation for a little short of 2 years. And with the brief period of life known as spin nearly over, you hear its dying crys. Makes you wonder what the point of this brief display is but still some look forward to its return mainly for the easy target it makes.

The saga continues scripted by Mr Palmer. I have been following this debate since the outset and can not believe it is still running. In this latest letter Mr Palmer asks for Mr Hague to come up with the facts. I find it incredible that Mr Palmer did not ask Chief Inspector Alan Cotgrove for the facts at there recent meeting, or perhaps he did but they didn’t suit him. I regularly attend Forum meetings and for the past 6 months at least the police have reported the local crime figures in our forum area broken down into categories, I am sure the same would be done by the police at the Chafford Forum meeting. Mr Palmer has stated, “We would have been remiss in our duty as community activists had we failed to voice the fears of some members of the community” (Gazette April 8th) Surely as a community activist Mr Palmer should be attending the Chafford Forum meetings.
Mr Palmer base’s his case on anecdotal evidence from a survey of local residents, let’s hope the Liberal Democrats base the reselection of Mr Palmer when it happens on anecdotal evidence from the letters page of the Gazette as I haven’t seen a great swathe of support for his posturing. This is not to say residents in the area aren’t concerned, just that they prefer to deal with it on a regular basis with groups and organisations that are there day in day out not for a few months just prior to elections.

She has created a Ward Folder for Chafford Hundred which will be brought to every meeting for residents to see – this file will contain latest stats and information on crime. if you do find him please do not wake him up,he needs to build his strength up for the next campaign.though it beats me how anyone can be daft enough to vote for him, when you choose a career in politics you have the choice from tories ,labour and lib- dem to use to make a career, how can anyone be daft enough to choose the lib-dems?,its like standing on the deck of the titanic and being given the choice between a life-raft,a life-jacket or a pair of lead boots.

Sorry no sign of him, just some guy called Lucan on some scabby old horse. I really must cut the grass at the bottom of Reason Acres more often...

Anyway Spartacus looking at the election results looks like the only way the Lib Dems will go down well in Thurrock is if they all wore lead boots!
