Why no stink about the stink?

SUMMER is on the way and let's all enjoy it sitting in our gardens or open spaces while breathing in the absolutely disgusting smell that pollutes the air in various strengths of stench.

As a fairly new resident of Thurrock I cannot comment on how long this has been a problem but it appears that the problem has not been resolved for many a year.

I have contacted Thurrock Council, the Environmental Agency and also the company who are the possible cause of the problem (I think we know who they are) and all I seem to get is the response "apologies for the inconvenience, your call/letter has been noted" and of course nothing happens.

I have noticed that there have been a number of letters in the Gazette recently regarding this issue but never a response from the company themselves.

It would be nice if they were to respond to the criticism and maybe explain what measures they have in place to eradicate the escaping smell.

It beggars belief that they have been able to get away with this pollution for so long, especially in these modern times when environmental issues are major news be it nationally or locally.

With the local elections soon trying to stop this problem would be an ideal policy. However, will any of the candidates tackle it? I may be wrong but frankly I doubt it.

It makes me think that whoever is responsible for the smell are maybe too powerful for anyone to call a halt to this vile pollution and we the taxpayers will just have to say "Oh well" and get on with our lives.

A sorry state indeed.

the smell last week was due to easterly winds bringing farming or industrial smells across the Channel.

look at the bbc site and many other news sites.

We can often smell a detergent or perfumed type smell in the Sachfield Area of Chafford Hundred. Apparently there's a factory nearby in Grays. Not sure it can be good for our health though.

dont worry Knighs1 appears to have moved to Linford on the letter from councillor Liddird and the BNP (see letters) so he will have to suffer the stench of the landfill etc.

You are also correct that everyone has the right to clean air it just appears that most of the industry in Thurrock thinks otherwise.

Thurrock voice of reason . Linford (in Hampshire) is where my Office is. Hope that clears that up for you! I also post my Location from Spain sometimes, as I own a place there as well.

Sparticus I suppose i could be called a snob but what cannot be questioned is you are a racist. We dont get very clean air in Windsor as we are on the approach to Heathrow Airport. But I knew that when I moved here 24 years ago and dont winge like some people do!

My Brain is tiny, but it's earning me a lovely living and at 45 I own a house overlooking the sea in Spain and one in Windsor and I shall retire in 5 years. Lifes a **** "Aint it! Oh look I can speak Chav as well!

I have an interest in a certain part of Thurrock. Thats why I read the Gazette, I also look at many other local papers in many other area's as well, although quite why I am explaining myself to a low life pond dwelling racist chav like you I dont know!

Hi Forrest. Got home last night from a long weekend in my place in Spain with my wife and 3 kids. Just thought I'd let you know I had a great time and was not too sad/lonely. I checked while I was there and Yes it is real and yes it is mine! so it would seem you have unpicked nothing, But Hey!I doubt you could unpick a lock even if you had the right key. It must be hard for somebody like you who has under achieved in life to accept that their are people out there, who have worked hard, took risks and done something with life. Your only response is to deny it is true. How sad and lonely you are!

i'd rather be on the outside looking in than be the dummy looking out,i heard after your modelling stint in the window you went to get changed back into your own clothes and found they were missing,the manager had seen them and thnrown them in the rag bag as unfit to be sold on as second hand goods.
